Adventure to the Top – Via Mediterranean Steps
Explore Tours
This walking tour is not for the faint hearted. These steps are steep and the climb arduous but the rewards unforgettable. This must be one of the bucket list walking tours of all time. Our meeting point is the Rock Hotel swimming pool bus stop which is easily accessible by bus. From this point we start our climb to the very top of the rock of Gibraltar. It’s an exhilarating climb to see the best views that Gibraltar has to offer. As we climb Engineer Road the views to the Straits of Gibraltar and Northern Africa will be awe inspiring. Our first stop will be Jews Gate, the entrance to the Nature Reserve.
We then start our hike to the top of the beautiful Rock of Gibraltar known for centuries located in a unique strategic location at the entrance to the Mediterranean, one of the mythological Pillars of Hercules.
Mediterranean Steps are not visited by many people and it is partly because of this that this climb is truly special as it is usually quiet. The steps are roughly hewn out of the rock itself and the climb up is truly breath taking. We will be visiting 2 natural caves, the Goats Hair Twin Caves where prehistoric people once lived.
The final flight of zigzagging steps leads to the highest peak, O’Hara’s Battery. Here we will be able to visit the battery.
The good news is that from this point, 426m above sea level, it is all downhill. Our tour takes us past a few packs of Barbary Macaques, our famous Rock Apes as we walk down to St Michael’s Cave where we are able to visit these beautiful caves before heading back down to civilisation. We walk across the Windsor Bridge, a must for all Instagram fans Our walking tour ends back in town.
